The QUEEN Legacy lives on... guitarist BRIAN MAY is still flying the colours for the royalists who've elevated him to solo artist status. Ably assisted by stalwarts, ole' thunderstick CoZy Powell, and Queen keysman Spike Edny, we're driven through a set which is at times magical, but verging heavily on retro cabaret for its high points.
Queen standards "Tie Your Mother Down," "Headlong," "Hammer to Fall," and the obligatory "We Will Rock You" ignite a show that would easily fall foul if left to May's recent solo material -- albeit "Resurrection." fuelled by the powerful pyrotechnic crash of Cozy Powell's solo drum extravaganza, was most noteworthy.
The inclusion of the RUSS-BALLARD-penned "Since You've Been Gone," however, was puzzling since it's a song Powell in his RAINBOW heyday apparently loathed. But gripes aside, the show must go on, and just to hear May's twin pronged reverberating guitar histrionics, made famous on Live Killers, is still a joy of joys, which gives this royal cat the right to continue wearing the Queen crown.
