Live Review: Faith No More, The Marquee, 14th May 1992

BAR BER BLACK SHEEP

Appearing under the name, "Hairkuts That Kill," FAITH NO MORE once again presented us with their live conundrum. Of course, the band loved it. "We are Faith No More, and we like CARCASS," states Roddy Bottum several times, and you wonder where they get their genius for music from. They aren't like Carcass, but watching them live, that seems to be more by luck than judgment.

Mike Patton, Faith's frontman, paces the small Marquee stage like a caged tiger.
The aggression both in him and in his relationship (or lack of it) with the rest of the band is intense, but he also takes the piss, almost like he can't quite understand exactly why people like the band so much.

The set is painfully loud, too loud to make any sense out of the tracks from Angel Dustbut "The Real Thing" comes across more powerfully than ever before.

Best is saved for the first encore when they pull out the majestic adrenaline rush of "From Out of Nowhere" with a cry of, "You can't leave!"

Truly magnificent in a smelly sort of way.
