Album Review: The Almighty, "Powertrippin'"

Ain't it amazing how changing one component off a machine can upgrade the overall performance? With Soul Destruction, THE ALMIGHTY were a band treading the waters of mundanity. Exit Tantrum and enter new guitarst Pete Friesin.

Powertrippin' is an apt title for the record The Almighty have been promising to make for yonks. Ricky Warwick may look at the typical metal warrior but he's never growled so intensely as on the gate-crashing opener "Addiction," a grunging, riff-laden beast of a tune. Nor has the band made a record as potent or aggressive.

Warick's lyrics have also evolved, from crotch level to the poignancy of such barbed observations as "Jesus Loves You...But I Don't" and the title track itself.
