Album Review: Van Halen, "Right Here, Right Now"

At last VAN HALEN have got their live act down on an official release. Two CD's, 136+ minutes in length. Value for money or what?

There's no denying that VH are a pivotal force and their history, included here, bears testimony to that. "Panama," "Jump," and the supreme "Ain't Talking About Love," originally Diamond Dave's tour-de-force are impossible for them to ignore. From the arena-styled big rock of late comes "When It's Love," "Love Walks In," and "Why Can't This Be Love."

Sammy Hagar may not possess the bravado of Roth but there's no denying his life vocals are more in tune (sic.) with the band. The 'Man in Red' even gets a piece of the action via renditions of his solo material, "One Way to Rock" and "Give to Live" which slip effortlessly into the set.
