Whatever her merits and demerits as a singer and a human being, Amy Winehouse was a truly iconic figure and will be sadly missed. Following her death I was inspired to paint this tribute to her, starting the painting on the day of her funeral and finishing it shortly after. The sentimentalization of Miss Winehouse in the days after her death is acknowledged in the colour scheme, blue and gold against a rosy background, but this is offset by touches of cynicism and mild parody that help maintain a degree of emotional, psychic, and moral balance.
