When you're AC/DC, making a new studio album is not something you take lightly. You just know it's gonna be massive all round the world and require epic, gargantuan touring. When Black Ice was released in 2008, it went to number one in 29 countries and led to a massive three-year tour with the band playing 168 electrifying gigs in every part of the globe. For the millions who saw that tour – I took in the Tokyo show last year – this DVD is an essential memento.
Buenos Aires was chosen as the venue to commemorate the tour because of its reputation for photogenic and excitable fans – 200,000 of them over three nights! This leads director David Mallet to emphasize the audience with split screens and frequent cuts to the crowd. While this helps convey the excitement that we all felt on this tour, sometimes you just wish the camera would linger longer with the band, even if they aren't quite as pretty as they were when the started rocking hard all those years ago. But quibbles aside, the high quality of the three audio mixes – LPCM 2.0 Stereo, LPCM 5.1 Surround, and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround – do full credit to the 19 thunderous classics belted out by rock's biggest act.
