Live Review: Thunder, Don Valley Stadium, 6th June, 1993

Luke Morley

If you like, Thunder are a throw back, a classic-sounding White British rock band steeped in the timeworn tradition of Black R n' B roots, i.e. Free and The Faces. These "sarf" London lads don't spring any surprises; whether it be AC/DC's Thunderstruck, which heralded their arrival, right through to chunky, melodic hard rock anthems like She's So Fine and the poignant Low Life... but they pulled it off with much aplomb and panache, whilst Back Street Symphony, the arabesque, piano-backed Like A Satellite and the current single Does It Feel Like Love added the icing to their performance. So perhaps they play it a little safe, but for me and I suspect a large portion of the crowd, Thunder were the top dogs on the day.
