Live Review: Romeo's Daughter, Hammersmith Odeon, 3rd November, 1989

Too much has already been written about the smouldering sensual beauty of the gorgeous Leigh Matty, so I won't go on anymore. Predictably a macho minority yelled for a "flash of flesh." Listen boys, if you want to see tits go watch LISA DOMINIQUE or even better buy the Sunday Sport and lock yourself in the toilet. That's enough of that.

ROMEO'S DAUGHTER are a band. Correction, Romeo's daughter are a rock band.

Live, songs like "Wild Child" and "Don't Break My Heart" have more power and passion than the album might suggest to the non-believer. In presentation, they have come a long way in the relatively short time they have been playing live, most noticeably Leigh. No longer the seemingly shy 'mysterious' woman slinking around the stage, remaining silent between songs. She now prowls the stage like a tigress, demanding attention.

Craig Joiner, a very underrated guitarist, throws all the shapes, but looks like he's enjoying himself not posing, and Tony Mitman, looking much better without those extensions, can't resist running to the front of the stage to encourage the crowd to clap along between songs.

They finished the set running through BILLY IDOL's "Rebel Yell," which only shows how strong their own songs are. I'd rather have heard "Hymn". Romeo's daughter are going to be massive. They won over quite a few fans tonight, make sure they win you over soon.

Note: Romeo's daughter were supporting FM on the night.
