Live Review: Megadeth, Milton Keynes Bowl, 5th June, 1993

Expectations ran high that MEGADETH would warm up the metal hordes eagerly anticipating the appearance of the awesome Metallica. Sadly, the only thing that warmed everybody up was the burning sun.

Megadeth's sound came across with all the force of a malnourished Somalian. And, on top this tinny, washed-out mess, the flame-haired frontman's weedy growl simply petered out all together, diluting the impact of their small clutch of good songs, particularly the excellent Symphony of Destruction. Mustaine did make some sort of gesture to set the Megadeth vs. METALLICA record straight.

"10 years of fuckin' bullshit between Megadeth and Metallica is over," he barked before, aptly enough, launching into Liar. They exited with a drab rendition of the SEX PISTOL's Anarchy in the UK, but by then my senses had long since dulled.
