Video Review: Kings X, "Chronicles"

With KINGS X producing such an adventurous, diverse sound, it's interesting to see what images a video company will collate when putting together this short film. Chronicles offers no insight or depth into Kings X as an entity, but is in itself a collection of five short videos, each of which was at some time geared towards the MTV or Chart Show audience.

What live footage there is is interwoven between outside location shots and studio backdrops. The film cuts from monochrome to colour and never lingers far too long in any one position. There are plenty of post-production tricks with superimposed spaceships and airplanes, etc. And at the end of "Summerland," the boys are seen walking through an enchanted forest, sifted, it seems, from the world of Alice in Wonderland.

There are no low points. The music, as we know, is good and the film work decent, but one must question the lunacy of the running time, which at 26 minutes is hardly enough to satisfy anyone's appetite. It would have been nice to see a few interviews or some real live action, but if it's priced fair, it's worth a viewing.
