Video Review Alice Cooper, "Prime Cuts: The Alice Cooper Story"

I remember my first encounter with ALICE COOPER vividly. My cousin had a poster of Billion Dollar Babies on the wall, and when I saw it, I was scared to tears.

Years on the only scary part of on this terrific collection is Alice's gold lurex trousers and his glitter eye makeup. He really used to dress like GARY GLITTER on a bad night back then, didn't he? The white, all-in-one jumpsuits are a long way from the familiar black leather bondage look he sports today.

This is a fully definitive and slick compilation of TV clips, live performances, clips, interview segments, and never-before-seen footage. It traces Alice Cooper's beginnings from opening for THE DOORS way back when, all the way up to his latest album, Hey Stoopid.

"We were the band who drove a stake through the heart of the love generation," states Alice at the beginning. And for the next 90 minutes, he proves it in Technicolor glory, with clips from all his greatest songs. A lot of them are shown in full, like "I'm Eighteen," "How You Gonna See Me Now," "Poison," "Only Woman Bleed," and "No More Mr Nice Guy," mostly in vintage concert footage. There are also segments of songs intermingled with commentary by Alice on the band, his snake, his habits and touring. Also how he tried to keep getting a reaction from people.

The guest appearances by OZZY and SLASH are mostly mundane, but the footage of Alice and SALVADOR DALI is brilliant. This is an excellent collection, a total education of a legend for those who are not Alice buffs. And for the fans, it is a memorable visual walkthrough of Alice's long and theatrical past. Definitely recommended.
