Live Review: The Grip, Town and Country Club, London, 20th November, 1989

"Silicon and Wire" opens tonight's set and THE GRUP  are instantly at their finest. No warming up necessary for this band. As Willie says, "It's Monday night, so it must be the Town and Country Club." The Grip/ QUIREBOYS roadshow has been rolling for a while now and The Grip are sharper than I've seen them in a long time. Willie, now comfortable as a part-time guitarist and full-time frontman, no longer looking lost without his bass, is as ready as ever with a witty quip between songs, a real rock n' roll NOEL COWARD.

One glorious slab of muscle-bound melodic rock with pop sensibilities rolls into the next. "Crush on You," "Look What You've Done," "Teenage Bride," "Vera Daydream," "Old Getting Older," I could go on but I'm sure you're familiar with them all, and if you're not you should be ashamed of yourself. Real songs that guarantee The Grip will eventually achieve the success they deserve.

Willie is the star of the show, making the stage his own, the rest of the band happy to let him hog the limelight. Go and see them the next time they play near you I promise you'll have a good time.
