Revenge Recommends: "America" by Hugh Laurie

Hugh Laurie is now best known for his straight acting role as the title character in the American medical drama series "House" and the father in "Stuart Little." However, his roots and best work can be found in the great wave of alternative comedy that swept through Britain in the 1980s and early 90s, when he partnered Stephen Fry in the comedy sketch show Fry & Laurie.

In the series Laurie occasionally used his considerable musical skills, as in this sketch, where he sings the song "America." The song is a scathing satire of the empty patriotism of America, with Laurie dressed rather like Bruce Springsteen and over-emotively singing a song with practically no lyrical content.
