Album Review: Heart, "Brigade"

Heart's latest and to these ears most rounded album to date. We'll skip Wild Child as it doesn't stand up next to the Romeo's Daughter original, but that's the only complaint. The Mutt Lange penned hit single All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You is second in and what can I say, classic Heart. You must have heard it by now. If you don't like it you might as well not bother reading any more, and if you do you'll love the rest of the album.

The production is brilliant, all credit to Richie Zito who supplies a huge rounded sound that shows the songs off at their best. From the raucous riffola of the Zeppelin-tinged groove of The Night to the lighter moments.

Of the lighter moments Under The Sky is probably the best, one of the few songs any of Heart had a hand in writing. As fresh and cool as a sea breeze on a long, hot summer's day, a perfect compliment to the tougher tracks. As always Heart strike a balance between beautiful ballads and bombastic rockers with a couple of mid tempo numbers they're so good at thrown in for good measure. Cruel Nights and Secret are the big ballads in the same vein as Alone.

As I said at the start I think this is Heart's best album to date. See y'all in the concert hall.
