This song started life in 1962 as a track on Takin’ Off, the debut album of jazz piano legend Herbie Hancock. The lyrics, co-written with jazz singer Gloria Lynne, who also recorded a version, seem to read like an emabarrassing double entendre.
Thankfully this version, recorded with an all-star line-up in Paris in 1991, is instrumental. The performance took place in July 1991, at La Grande Halle de la Villette, Paris, France, a couple of months before Miles Davis died from the combined effects of a stroke, pneumonia and respiratory failure at the age of 65.
He doesn't look too healthy, and doesn't do much, except a bit of tooting near the end. Kenny Garrett's sax solo is the highlight of the performance.
