Album Review, The Cult, "Pure Cult"

Pure Cult focuses on the halycon moments of the Cult's career, be it the early Gothic tones of Spiritwalker, the psychedelic delight of Revolution, the guitar-laden riffs of Wild Hearted Son, or the pained balladic strains of Edie (Ciao Baby).

Even though She Sells Sanctuary from Love remains as The Cult's piece-de-resistance, 1991's Ceremony is the consumate Cult long player.

As an added bonus a new cut The Witch surfaces. Its throbbing backbeat against Astbury's roughly mixed vocal brings truth to the rumours that the band are set to return to their roots. This compilation is the affirmation that The Cult are one of the best bands to emerge from Britain over the past eight years, bar no one. Crank it up and let it rip.
