Video: The Smiths Debut Five New Songs at the Irvine Magnum in 1985

On September 22, 1985, The Smiths played the Magnum Leisure Centre in Ayrshire, Scotland, a rather out-of-the-way venue. With the pressure off they debuted five new songs live. These were "What's The World" (a James song), "The Boy With The Thorn In His Side," "Frankly, Mr Shankly," "Bigmouth Strikes Again," and "Stretch Out and Wait."

Three of these ("The Boy With The Thorn In His Side," "Frankly, Mr Shankly," and "Bigmouth Strikes Again") would appear on their next album The Queen is Dead.

"Stretch Out and Wait" would be the B-side of single "Shakespeare's Sister" and "What's The World" was never recorded. Read more here
