Album Review, Dio, "Strange Highways"

After the Black Sabbath debacle, RJD has wasted no time in reassembling Dio with his old mate Vinnie Appice. And with the likes of Jeff Pilson and guitarist Tracy G in the works, Strange Highways showcases a line-up more precise and instantly aggressive.

Firehead, Evilution, Hollywood Black, and opener Jesus Mary And The Holy Ghost sees Dio abandoning their brand of epic metal in favour of a more straightforward, grungier, doom-orientated style. No classic anthems though, only the moody title track and the classically tinged Bring Down The Rain come close. Otherwise rainbow free. ★★★★☆
